Problem Statement
Niyo users are avid international travellers, out of which a lot of users use their zero-forex card to shop abroad. Since Niyo has a database of shops and websites where users normally spend at each country, this information can be presented to shoppers as a guide to trusted shopping spots.
Goals and KPIs
Design goal: Users should be able to find trustworthy, Niyo-approved places to shop. The feature should allow them to plan their shopping trips and big purchases, while presenting discounts and sales to them.
Business goal: There should be an increase in the number of international transactions per user, leading to an increase in revenue.

Research findings
Through talking to existing power Niyo users, I found that there were three factors to every international purchase:
Trust (mainly word of mouth)
Budget and discounts
Convenience (distance from the shop, delivery times etc)
The product team, meanwhile, compiled spending data from 40+ countries and found merchants that were the most popular with Niyo users. This was the data I could use:
Country of the merchant
Category (food, clothing. electronics etc)
Number of Niyo users spent at that merchant
Design Process
Then began the lengthy process of iterations and explorations. I first sketched out the rough journey and identified the key screens to be made. I made low fidelity wireframes, which over multiple review and feedback sessions, distilled into the final screens.
Initial blocking out of the main screens
UI explorations going from rough to almost final
Presenting: the final design
for Niyo's Spend Guide.
When the user is abroad, they see the spend guide's widget on the homepage.
The widgets hint that there are many trustworthy, Niyo-approved places to shop at in the country. The user can also see if there is an ongoing sale season or not, which can prompt them to spend more.
Tapping on the widget takes the user to the main page.
Main page breakdown
Each page is divided into sections which can be rearranged for different users. The page is designed to be easy to scan on the go, opening into further detail if the user wants to know more.

But: the spend guide isn't just useful for people travelling outside India. There are 4 states of the main page depending on the location of the user, achieved by simply reordering and reusing page sections.
A bonus feature: the Sales Calendar!
The sales calendar is a handy view of all the major sale seasons around the world. The main purpose of this screen is for users to plan their trips and purchases around sales. There is a filter for the country and category of interest, and each sale has a specific overview page.

The Sales banners are made for quick collating - they each have shades of one colour and an AI-generated representative image. Main information like the dates, categories and countries are shown.
What's next?
The project is slated to go live any day now. Hoping to see good adoption rates, increased international transactions and increased NPS for the Niyo app.
